Western Sydney is the largest school region we track — 428 schools from Parramatta and Auburn out through Blacktown to Penrith and down to Liverpool — and it educates more children than some entire states. The academic story is led by its selective schools: Girraween High School and Penrith High School post results matching the state's best, and Parramatta High performs strongly. The independent sector is distinctive for its breadth — Anglican girls' school Tara and Redeemer Baptist School at North Parramatta lead on results, while low-fee Islamic and Christian schools such as Al-Faisal College at Auburn have grown rapidly and now post some of the region's strongest results at far lower fees than the traditional privates. The Catholic system is the biggest in the country at 89 schools. With this much variety, region-wide averages mean little: North Rocks Public School posts primary results in the state's top handful, while schools a few suburbs away face very different circumstances.
